Planning a new project? The best place to start is to figure out a budget. What can you really afford? Once you have this number in mind, then you can start requesting estimates to determine what your options may be.
Keep in mind that the larger the project, the more likely an unexpected expense will occur (you never know what you’ll find under a toilet or behind an old kitchen sink), so it’s best to try and stay under budget on the estimate you choose.
It’s also a good idea to try and be under budget on an estimate so that if during the project you decide you want to add in something else (new shelving, a nicer door, etc.) you have the flexibility in your budget to do so.
A thought-out budget means you can relax and enjoy your space once a project is completed versus stressing over how you’re going to pay it off.
